Hiromix Paris ’97–’98 is a visual diary of Hiromix’s travels through Paris between 1997 and 1998. Working in her characteristic snapshot style, Hiromix photographs the city through its everyday details: streets, architecture, gardens, food, restaurants, hotel rooms, friends and fleeting moments of travel. The resulting portrait of Paris is intimate and unpolished, more concerned with personal experience than conventional travel photography.

Designed by Gugi Akiyama and Kazushige Ichimi, the book has a distinctive early-2000s Japanese graphic sensibility, with its elongated horizontal format and vivid colour photographs running largely without text or captions. Hiromix’s photographs move between the picturesque and the mundane, capturing Paris as a lived environment rather than a tourist destination.

A significant work within Hiromix’s early photo books, and an important example of the diaristic, youth-oriented Japanese photography that emerged in the 1990s.
